"The Adsense Code" Book Review
"The Adsense Code" caught my eye because it is one of those books that appeals to my quest for the secret to making great money online. I am always interested in finding out new ways to make the most of adsense. Anyway, the word "code" always gets me, it sounds like there might be some really simple element that we are all missing that will make the difference between doing okay with adsense to having amazing results.
The first part about setting up the blog is just basic stuff that I skimmed through quickly. I was eager to turn to the next chapters. What I found were pages devoted to designing web pages that would optimize your clicks with adsense. I have to say, I was a little disappointed. I think most bloggers are aware just by reviewing their blogs and statistics what techniques are ideal. I guess to be fair, there are some that could benefit from the layout advice if they are just starting a blog or have the tendency to plaster their site with millions of ads. For most blogs and websites that are already set up, redoing the layout would mean a lot of work and problems with previously posted ads on archived pages.
Other points made are ones that have been made eleswhere on the Internet.
The book did cover things about content, linking and submitting to the major search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN, and advertising but I was disappointed that it didn't cover anything really new. I also expected there would be more technical detail. The most technical detail in the book seems to be about using statistics with adsense. I think it provides decent guidelines that enhance the webmasters information you can find on Google but again, you can find the information without the book.
Towards the end of the book there is some referrals to other information you can buy online.
All in all, I was not overly impressed with what the book had to offer. Although, if I was just starting out with blogging and using adsense it would summarize the most important points in setting up your blog for the best results. I guess I was hoping for some elusive secret that would shoot my numbers to the sky, but alas, I didn't find it in the book. Some of it is even outdated, which is a disappointment. There is a section about using adsense for referrals and that program is no longer is in existance.
All in all, I still think the many of the most important tips you can find to optimize your blog are found for free on the Internet by the generous sharing of information that bloggers are known for. There are very detailed directions on doing almost anything you want with your blog if you just search for it. Many of the same points are covered and you don't have to buy it to read about it. If technical issues abound in creating your blog search Google or Yahoo for the answer and I bet you'll find it. I have made my own list of tips for bloggers in my archives that you can read and use for free.
